This blog is dedicated to the sublime instruments called nose flutes and which produce the most divine sound ever. We have chosen to discard all the native models from S. Pacific and Asia, for they need fingering to be played. We'll concentrate on "buccal cavity driven" nose flutes : the well patented and trademarked metal or plastic ones, plus, by a condemnable indulgence, some wooden craft or home-made productions.

Two german videos

Mr. Hiroshi Tachibana dug out two great german Nasenflöte videos. In the first one, the musician plays a Schwan nose flute and a classical (flamenco) guitar.

The second one is a duet playing the Monthy Python song Always look on the bright side of life, on a pair of heart-shaped nose flutes.

  1. I love the first video. To me this is the very first virtuoso nose flute performance out here, as the player demonstrates great tone, timbre, control and use of effects. Additonally, he plays the guitar simultaneously, doing so in a virtuoso manner, creating great texture. Finally, the player adds a third effect, that of percussion, whilst continuing to play both instruments simultaneously, holding great form and control. I am very happy this video is out here, because now we can finally see and hear the nose flute being played proficiently. Hats off. To me, this is a new starting point for the nose flute as a serious instrument.

    1. Hello Maikel, you are right - about the performance itself, for sure – but also about "nose flute as a serious instrument"...
