This blog is dedicated to the sublime instruments called nose flutes and which produce the most divine sound ever. We have chosen to discard all the native models from S. Pacific and Asia, for they need fingering to be played. We'll concentrate on "buccal cavity driven" nose flutes : the well patented and trademarked metal or plastic ones, plus, by a condemnable indulgence, some wooden craft or home-made productions.

The Canadian Bocarina!

Jean-François Lapierre, aka Shalalaszwee, the canadian musician we presented here, had a good idea : ordering Bocarinas on demand, marked with a serigraphed maple leaf flag.

Mr. Chris Schuermans, creator and designer of the Bocarina, based in Pretoria, South Africa, made a 3D model that was accepted, and the production has been launched. They are cureently on their way to Ottawa, where they will be sold exclusively at the Byward Market.

This is the beginning of a new era : Branded Bocarinas! And thus, series of collectors :)

  1. Thank you so much for spreading the news! I am very proud of the result, Chris is a very generous gentleman that helped us a lot to create this model, special request for my great friend DANIEL ROBERT, he is a craftman and vendor since many years at the Byward market, you can get your name shaped into a bracelet by him in 10 minutes, if he does not have it already done in his huge collection, mostly ladies names. He tried a bocarina and liked it so much he asked me if I could help him contact the creator and have his own stamped bocarinas to be the exclusive distributor in Ottawa! We are very pleased by the pictures, cant wait to get the shipment that is on the way now!

  2. This is such a great development for the instrument! I am sure that they will fly; the very best of luck!

The really great thing about the Bocarina to me is its extended lower lip rest, the place where the Maple Leaf sits: this is the perfect spot for sticking a contact microphone. Note: I am not calling on people to cover the Canadian flag here...;-)
